Bilingual AI receptionist: English and French on one line

Gala answers your business line in English or Québécois French, whichever the caller speaks first, on every plan from $129 CAD a month. On most US services, "bilingual" means English and Spanish. In Canada it has to mean French.

Coverage24/7Several calls at once, in either language.

A bilingual AI receptionist answers your phone in both of your customers' languages, at any hour, and does the whole job in either one. For a Canadian business those two languages are English and French, and in Québec the French has to be the one your callers speak.

Gavion builds Gala, so this is a seller's page. Every claim about Gala below comes from our price list, our FAQ or our security page, and every claim about another vendor comes from that vendor's own site, on the date shown.

How Gala handles two languages on one number

Gala detects the caller's language on the first sentence and answers in it. A caller who opens in French gets the call in French, and a caller who opens in English gets it in English. There is no menu to press and no second number to publish.

Why "bilingual" usually means Spanish on US services

On US answering services, "bilingual" usually means English and Spanish. We read 25 AI receptionists and answering services sold in Canada, each on its own site. Smith.ai, Ruby and Abby Connect name English and Spanish, and none of the three pages mentions French.

Across the whole field, 17 of 25 name French as a language the service answers in, and 5 of 25 use the words Québécois French. The table gives each one's language claim in its own words, with the date we read it.

Read the table for what it leaves out, too. A website published in French is not a phone line answered in French, and a list of more than 30 languages that includes French does not say which French.

How to test a bilingual receptionist in two calls

Do not take a language list on trust, ours included. Call the vendor's demo line twice, once in each language, and run the same four checks.

Gala's demo line is +1 (514) 534-1298. It is a live line, not a recording, and it answers in English or French.

What it costs: French is included on every plan

Three published plans in Canadian dollars, from $129 to $439 a month. Every plan answers in Québécois French and English on the same number, with no language surcharge and no setup fee.

PlanPer monthMinutesUsersVoice agentsOverage
Essential$12925031 voice agent$0.37/min
Advanced$24950052 voice agents$0.35/min
Enterprise$4391,00073 voice agents$0.33/min

Annual billing takes 15% off, paid in one payment up front. An additional voice agent, with its own number and its own script, is $10 a month.

Two languages, one place for the data: Canada

A call recording is personal information in either language. Gala stores account data, call records and transcripts in Canada, on a Québec-based application server.

Recordings you turn on are deleted after 90 days. Call data is never sold, and never used to train third-party models.

Who needs a bilingual receptionist

Any business whose callers do not all open in the same language: a plumber in Montréal, an electrician in Gatineau, a roofer in Moncton. If some of your callers open in French and others in English, one number has to handle both.

It matters most at the hours nobody is at the desk. A bilingual employee covers the day, and Gala covers the evening, the weekend and the second call that rings while the first is still going.

Frequently asked questions

What is a bilingual AI receptionist?

An AI receptionist that answers your business phone in two languages and does the whole call in either one: questions, booking and follow-up. In Canada the two languages are English and French. Gala, by Gavion of Montréal, detects the caller's language on the first sentence and answers in Québécois French or English, 24/7, from $129 CAD a month.

Does French cost extra?

No. Every Gala plan answers in Québécois French and English on the same number. The plans differ only by included minutes, users and voice agents, from $129 to $439 CAD a month.

Do I need a separate phone number for each language?

No. Gala answers both languages on your existing number, through simple call forwarding. If you run two banners or two service lines, an additional voice agent gets its own number and its own script.

Does Gala speak Québec French or France French?

Québec French. Gala answers in authentic Québec French and switches to English based on the caller. Most voice assistants on the market speak a translated French with a European accent and vocabulary, and a Québec caller hears it within seconds.

What other languages does Gala support?

Gala supports 44 languages in total. French and English are detected automatically on every plan.

Call the demo line in French, then in English, and hear it for yourself. Hear Gala answer · See pricing
