Forwarding is set in Teams settings, or by an admin in the Teams admin center.
To forward to a phone number, you need a Teams Phone licence, a connection to the phone network and a phone number assigned.

To cancel, select the forwarding status at the bottom of the Calls app, then choose Don't forward.
In the same section, send unanswered calls to a new number. Your team answers first.
If nobody changes this, Teams sends unanswered calls to voicemail after 30 seconds.
In the Teams admin center: Users, Manage users, pick the user, then the Voice tab.
Under Call answering rules, choose Be immediately forwarded, or set If unanswered with a ring time before redirecting.
The calling policy must allow forwarding to external phone numbers. It is on by default.
Every code and fee on this page comes from Microsoft Teams's own support pages, read on October 27, 2026. Providers do change their codes: if in doubt, their page is the reference.
In Teams, open Settings and more, Settings, then Calls. Under Call handling and forwarding, choose a new number.
Microsoft says you likely lack a voice licence. A licence change can take up to 24 hours to apply.
Select the forwarding status at the bottom of the Calls app, then Don't forward.
